Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2007 im Fachbereich BWL - Sonstiges, Note: 1,7, Universität zu Köln (Institut für Wirtschafts- und Sozialpsychologie), Veranstaltung: Psychologie der Entscheidung, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die Tatsache, dass sich Menschen meist egoistisch verhalten, hat Adam Smith, der Begründer der Nationalökonomie, bereits früh erkannt, indem er sagte: "It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer or the baker, that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own interest." (1904, S.14) Demnach müssen sich Menschen in ökonomischen Beziehungen nicht darauf verlassen, dass sich ihre Verhandlungspartner aus purer Nächstenliebe fair verhalten. Vielmehr handeln sie aus Eigenliebe, die sie dazu treibt, alles daran zu setzen, die Verhandlung erfolgreich zu beenden. So wird der Bäcker stets seine besten Brötchen zum Verkauf anbieten, da es ihm nur dann gut ergeht, wenn es seinen Kunden gut schmeckt. Dies deckt sich mit der ökonomischen Standardtheorie, die annimmt, dass Menschen immer den größtmöglichen materiellen Gewinn aus einer Situation ziehen wollen. Sie verhalten sich wie der, von Adam Smith geprägte, perfekt rationale und egoistische Homo Oeconomicus, der als Grundannahme vieler wirtschaftswissenschaftlicher Modelle gilt. Orientieren sich Menschen jedoch tatsächlich nur am materiellen Gewinn, oder gibt es andere Motivationen, die eine Rolle spielen? Adam Smith (1790, S.4) gab selbst eine Antwort durch die Worte: "How selfish soever man may be supposed, there are evidently some principles in his nature, which interest him in the fortunes of others [...] though he derives nothing from it except the pleasure of seeing it." Es erscheint plausibel, dass es soziale Präferenzen gibt, die Menschen dazu bringen, sich am Glück anderer zu erfreuen, obwohl es ihnen keinen materiellen Vorteil bringt.
