About the Book

This cookbook has been a wonderful journey of discovery. Over the last 10 + years I have collected recipes from the recipe boxes of my mother, grandmothers, aunts, and cousins. Over the 5 + years I have done the same thing with my husband's mother, aunts, sisters, and cousins. The result is a collection of thousands of recipes. I combed through the recipes and picked out the ones that had obviously been used often and were family favorites. I then asked relatives that are currently living to submit more modern recipes that are currently their family favorites. I went through all of the recipes and picked the most loved, the most unusual, the oldest, most interesting, the newest, and a general sampling of recipes and compiled them into the book you have before you. The oldest recipe in this book is from the 1880's and the newest is from 2005. There are soups, salads, appetizers, main dishes, and desserts as well as a few miscellaneous recipes. All in all there are over 100 recipes from men and women who were excellent cooks, average cooks, and downright terrible cooks who had one dish they could do well. These were ordinary, everyday people with the same types of troubles and worries that we have today. They worried about getting everyone fed well on a limited budget and limited food, they worried about their children and wanted them to grow up to be good solid citizens and the best that they could be. They worried about the trials and tribulations that might befall their families but through it all they never lost faith that our Heavenly Father would see them through and help them to navigate their way through life. My hope is that you will enjoy this cookbook as much as I have enjoyed putting it together. All profits from this book will go to obtain and train a Service Dog for me.
About the Author: Jacqui Porter has had an interest in cooking and Family History since she was a young child. She fondly remembers cooking with her mother, grandmothers, and aunts. Many times they would talk about family members who had passed on. She firmly believes that this is what started her quest into Family History. She always wanted to know more about these people. What was their life like? What did they do for a living? What did they look like? What did they eat and like to do for fun? These are some of the questions that her research has answered and is still answering. Jacqui is married to Keith Porter. He is a wonderful supportive man who never realized what he was getting into when he married her. Not only did he marry a woman who enjoys going to cemeteries and taking pictures of tombstones, but she also loves to cook and try new recipes. As well as do crazy things like try to compile a book of recipes from current family members back to the 1880's. These activities were made more difficult when she began having problems with balance, memory, concentration and tripping while walking. Eventually in 2012 she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Because of her balance and walking issues it was suggested that a Service Dog could benefit her. This dog will help provide stability for her when she is walking, will help pull her up from a low chair or couch, will be a brace to use to get up from other couches and chairs, will push buttons to open handicapped doors, and a variety of other little jobs. This dog will also be a constant companion who will not judge her when she trips and will not feel sorry for her. She will just be there. All profits from this cookbook will go towards obtaining and training a Service Dog for her.
