Il libro parla di un regolamento di conti avvenuto tra Firenze e la Romagna durante il rinascimento.
In poche parole racconta come Riario e Suo Zio Papa SistoIV, furono i mandanti della congiura dei Pazzi, dove ordinarono ai congiurati fiorentini, di assassinare nel Duomo di Firenze Giuliano De Medici e mancarono di poco Lorenzo il Magnifico.
Poi Lorenzo mise su una compagnia segreta "De ucciditori" per vendicare quella congiura, e dopo aver preso gli esecutori fiorentini e averli appesi al palazzo della Signoria, diedero la caccia anche a Girolamo Riario, primo marito di Caterina Sforza, che nel frattempo era diventato conte di Forlì, e lo fecero assassinare dentro il palazzo comunale di quella città, esattamente come aveva fatto con Giuliano De Medici e altro che scoprire e capirete da soli, man mano che procederete nella lettura.

Scritto in modo rapido, veloce e scorrevole, a metà tra saggio e narrazione, questo romanzo storico, svela forse per la prima, volta in modo franco e diretto, parecchi misteri e cose accadute ad una persona chiamata Girolamo Riario, primo marito di Caterina Sforza e nipote di Papa Sisto IV.
