About the Book

Dr. Elizabeth Davenport thought she had it all...married to the love of her life, a great job, and the dream home most would die for. Then one day, her life changes forever when a terrible accident makes it necessary for Elizabeth and her husband, Harrison, to return to her hometown for the first time after three decades. Elizabeth's plagued nightmares challenge her to face the truth of the mysterious secrets that had haunted her mind and inner soul. With the support of her devoted husband, she faces the demons of her past and learns the answers to the many secrets she had suppressed. As trapped and unseen skeletons escape and openly mingle with unrecognized skeletons and memories Elizabeth becomes more intoxicated with fear and anxiety. Across the tracks in the small community of Shadow Village there awaits bone chilling secrets that have been entangled in a web of lies and deceit. Lies that have controlled many of the Mill Village residents for decades by a domineering man and his partner. Despite who is involved, the web of buried secrets are seeking to expose the truth. Adjusting to the uncovered skeletons of Shadow Village has the potential to test loyalty, forgiveness, and acceptance. Can Elizabeth and Harrison Davenport's marriage survive once they are pitted against the truth ...against each other? Or will the truth become an obsession the couple cannot define and destroys their picture perfect marriage? Is Harrison Davenport prepared to face not only his wife's demons but those of others? Will the truth threaten and seize their future together or will forgiveness prevail?
About the Author: Bonnie Vause was born and raised in a small cotton mill village in N.C. She resides with her husband of thirty plus years near Raleigh, NC. Her most valued aspect of life is spending quality time with her family. Bonnie and her husband have two adult daughters and three charming granddaughters. At home, she is busy reading, researching, writing, and enjoys sewing. The couple enjoy visiting Brevard and Edenton and other small quaint towns in N.C. The author's love of reading started as a young child in elementary school. Her writing skills blossomed when her grandmother gave her a diary. She used the gift as a way to escape reality, to construct short stories and record her inner thoughts. Bonnie mastered disadvantages in her childhood through reading and writing. Later in her adult life, the written words of her diary eventually danced with freedom as the characters came alive on the paper of her debut novel. Bonnie considers herself fortunate for her rich heritage and cherishes the many opportunities of growing up poor on a Cotton Mill Village. However, as a child she often felt life on the wrong side of the tracks was a culture within a culture; where some looked down upon the residents of the small mill village. At a young age, Bonnie was able to distinguish the difference between poverty and wealth and longed for a different way of life. Determined to beat the odds she realized hard work, proper education, and perseverance were important keys to success. Dr. Bonnie Vause remembers visiting the Salvation Army to receive clothes as a young child; hiding her face due to the shame of being poor. Today, she is extremely proud to be skilled in bargain shopping for deals; finding antique furniture and new designer clothes at consignment shops. Bonnie has no doubt living in poverty made her the rightful owner of appreciation for the small things in life. She also feels it gave her something money can't purchase; compassion and acceptance for others. Dr. Bonnie Vause is a graduate of Barton College. She also earned her Master in Special Education from East Carolina University and achieved her Doctorate in Special Education, Admin. Leadership in 2012 from Walden University. Dr. Vause has served twenty five years as an educator leader advocate on Local, State, and National Committees/Boards. Most recently serving on Board of Directors for N.C. Public School Children and N.C. Governor's Teachers Advisory Committee. Perseverance remains her key word in life.
