Leatrice was born in 1925 in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. After graduating from Reynoldsburg High School, she was later employed at Curtiss Wright and Westinghouse.
In 1965, She moved to California, where she worked at Robertshaw Controls and held several different positions at the plant. Mae, also published and coedited the plant newspaper. In addition, she served as chairperson for the drug and alcohol abuse program of Dominguez Hospital in Long Beach, California.
In 1986, Leatrice moved from California back to Columbus, Ohio, where she met and married James B. Freeman. She formed Nefertiti Temple #1377, which is affiliated with the local BPO Elks Lodge and recently celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary.
The mother of three children, She enjoys spending time with her family and reading the Bible and Reader's Digest.
