About the Book

Fettered Love is an anthology about life, love, and the ability of the human spirit to make courageous choices. Several themes thread through this collection of seven short stories: coming of age, infidelity and betrayal, innocence, prejudice and power, and (of course) the power of love. The stories are beautifully crafted, combining form and substance with intrigue and suspense. Some stories combine simplicity of setting, like a bus ride, with rich characters filled with raw, robust emotion. Other stories will take you on a cultural journey, teaching the old ways of England and the Caribbean across a continuum of generations, diversities, and time. The stories will draw you in, make you feel, teach you something about courage, and then leave you feeling like you have just said farewell to some old friends-like all great stories do.
About the Author: Vernella Fuller was born in Saint Catherine, Jamaica, in 1956. She is the second eldest of six siblings. Her parents immigrated to England in the early 1960s, and she joined them in 1968. During those early years, Vernella was heavily influenced by her mother, Delceta, and her Grandmother Beatrice, both of whom instilled in her a great love for books, reading, and learning. Vernella attended secondary school in South London and received an undergraduate degree from University of Sussex; a post-graduate teacher certificate from Goldsmiths, University of London; and masters and doctorate degrees from the Institute of Education, University College London. Vernella taught history and sociology in secondary school and at the college level in London for over seventeen years. She was and remains an educator and advocate for learning and literacy. In the 1990s, she began writing stories and authoring books about the lives of people with British-Jamaican heritage. In 2007, Vernella permanently returned to Jamaica. She lives in Rose Hall, Saint James. Also by Vernella Fuller: Going Back Home Unlike Normal Women Returnee
