About the Author:

The AAP Section on Transport Medicine facilitates interactions among physicians and other providers involved in interfacility transport for the purpose of improving care of infants, children, and adolescents. The Section supports all transport team members by developing clinical guidance, providing education, facilitating interdisciplinary networking, promoting research, and advocating for providers at the local, state, and national level.

Keith Meyer, MD is the medical director for the LifeFlight Neonatal and Pediatric Transport Team at Nicklaus Children's Health System. He is a voluntary Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at Florida International University and has served on the AAP Section of Transport Medicine Executive Committee since 2008 - and as Chairperson between 2014 and 2018.

Caraciolo Fernandes, MD, FAAP is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics with Baylor College of Medicine and Attending Neonatologist at Texas Children's Hospital since 1998, and the Medical Director for Texas Children's Hospital's Kangaroo Crew Neonatal Transport since 2008. He has authored or co-authored a number of book chapters and peer-review publications on a variety of topics in neonatology. With an avid interest in Quality Improvement, Dr. Fernandes attended the Intermountain Healthcare Advanced Training Program in Health Care Delivery in Salt Lake City, Utah in 2008, and is actively involved in a variety of quality improvement initiatives at Texas Children's Hospital related to the transport and care of critically ill neonates. He served on the AAP Section of Transport Medicine Executive Committee.

Hamilton Schwartz, MD, MEd, FAAP, FACEP is Medical Director of the Emergency Department and Critical Care Transport Team at Cincinnati Children's. He is a member of the AAP Section on Transport Medicine and an Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Dr. Schwartz is also co-founder of the international medical transport quality improvement collaborative, Ground Air Medical qUality Transport Quality Improvement Collaborative (GAMUT).
