About the Book

Schon der Titel von Peter Oefeles Buch assoziiert eine Verbundenheit mit Jack Kerouacs Romanen. Dabei ist "Fiesta, Ramadan und tote Helden" nicht als Pedant zu "Engel, Kif und neue Länder" oder "Gammler, Zen und Hohe Berge" zu verstehen und er strebt einen solchen Vergleich auch nicht an. Was uns der Autor (der unter dem Pseudonym Sugar Ray schon Storys und Abhandlungen zu Musik und Literatur in Printmedien wie "Maskenball" oder "Zukunft heute" veröffentlicht hat) mit seinem Debüt vorlegt, ist ein ganz persönlicher Reisebericht - doch sollte man sich von der Bezeichnung Reisebericht nicht verwirren lassen, damit würde man dem Inhalt des Buches nicht gerecht werden. Bei "Fiesta, Ramadan und tote Helden" gelingt Peter Oefele nämlich das seltene Kunststück, eine Brücke zu schlagen: eine Brücke zwischen Reisebericht und lyrischer Betrachtung, zwischen Hintergrundwissen und dem Gefühl on the road zu sein. Den Auslöser dieses Gefühls beschreibt der Autor auf Seite 146 folgendermaßen: "Die Tatsache, dass ich eine Zeitlang auf einer ganz besonderen Welle des Hochgefühls surfen durfte, hat nichts mit einem bestimmten Ort zu tun, sondern einzig und allein damit, dass ich unterwegs war." Europa - Afrika - Rückkehr. Die Gliederung des Buches entspricht dem Erzählaufbau, der einem in der Schule gelehrt wird: Einführung - Höhepunkt - Schluss. Und so erzählt der Autor seine Reise nach diesem klassischen Muster: mit seinem alten Mercedes-Benz von Augsburg aus über Frankreich nach Spanien bis hinunter nach Algeciras. Dort setzt er nach Afrika über, genauer gesagt nach Marokko, das zweifellos zum Highlight seiner Reise wird. Seine Faszination für diesen nahen und doch so fernen Kontinent kann man aus jedem Satz herauslesen. Und ganz nebenbei vermittelt er - mit einer für ihn selbstverständlichen Portion Humor und Respekt - Wissenswertes und Faszinierendes über Marokko und den Islam. Der Rückweg hingegen fällt vergleichsweise kurz aus und ist mit dem wehmütigen Wissen durchsetzt
About the Author: Peter Oefele, geboren am 13.05.1974, verbrachte seine Jugend in Dießen am Ammersee, machte sein Abitur am Gymnasium Weilheim, vollendete an der Universität Augsburg sein Studium der Rechtswissenschaften und lebt seit 2002 in Berlin. Heute mit einer juristischen Promotion beschäftigt, Mitarbeiter im Verlag Jens Neuling, selbständiger Webdesigner, Autor. Veröffentlichungen in Literaturzeitschriften, Presse (u.a. reisen.de) und Anthologien.
