Bachelorarbeit aus dem Jahr 2016 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Neuere Deutsche Literatur, Note: 2,1, Universität Bielefeld, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: In dieser Arbeit wird die folgende Fragestellung untersucht: "Inwiefern trägt die Vorliebe für das Theater zum Verfall der Romanfigur Christian Buddenbrook bei?" Es wurde bereits viel über Thomas Manns Erfolgsroman publiziert, jedoch ist die Nebenfigur, Christian Buddenbrook, häufig nur am Rande betrachtet worden. Die Publikationen, die sich ausschließlich mit seiner Person befassen, setzen den Fokus oftmals auf seine Neurasthenie und Hypochondrie. Zweifellos ist diese Thematik ein Schlüssel zum Verständnis der Romanfigur. Es ist jedoch erstaunlich, dass Christians Vorliebe für das Theater, die beinahe durchgängig präsent ist in seinem Leben, nur sporadisch untersucht wurde. Der Schwerpunkt dieser Arbeit liegt auf der allgemeinen Rolle des Theaters im Roman und Christians Vorliebe zum Theater im Besonderen. Der Fokus der Untersuchung ist auf Christian Buddenbrook gerichtet, allerdings wird das Verhältnis der anderen Figuren zum Theater am Rande berücksichtigt. Zunächst sollen die historischen Gründe für die negative Konnotation des Theaters herausgestellt werden. Hierbei wird auf die Unvereinbarkeit des Bürger- und Künstlertums eingegangen sowie auf die Figur des Dilettanten. Ausgehend von dem zeitlichen Kontext wird in einem weiteren Kapitel Christians Vorliebe für das Theater, seine Inszenierungen im Alltag sowie die Reaktion seiner Umwelt analysiert. Außerdem befasst sich die Arbeit mit dem Verfall als Schauspiel und Theater im Roman. Zum Schluss wird ein Fazit, bestehend aus einer Zusammenfassung, Reflexion und weiteren Forschungsimpulsen gezogen. Thomas Manns Roman "Buddenbrooks. Verfall einer Familie" schildert den Niedergang der Kaufmannsfamilie Buddenbrook, der sich in einem Schwinden der Lebenskraft, bei gleichzeitiger Verfeinerung von Intellekt und Geschmack, äußert. So wie alle Mitglieder der Familie ist
