About the Book

Five Women uses science fiction as a way of exploring current social issues. The first issue is the concentration of wealth and power into fewer and fewer hands. What will happen in three generations from now if this trend continues? The answer is a despotic world where all power has been concentrated to the extent that one woman, Karnetta Monad, the One True Living God, controls the whole world. Karnetta is with any form of compassion and empathy and has the obsession of cause pain and suffering to men through sexual perversion. Five women is the story of how Karnetta Monad is finally deposed in a classic good versus evil tale told through the lives of five women. The first woman, Helen, is a young, intelligent 'modern' woman who is independent and confident in her own abilities. Helen remains a steadying force throughout the overall story. Lady Jane is a celebrity, a media creation. The story of Lady Jane is of how the media elevates and totally distorts the image of those deemed to be celebrities, and when there is nothing left, destroys them. Stella is the mother of Karnetta. No matter how hard she tries Stella cannot get away from being nothing more than a thing to be used to advance the fortunes of the family dynasty. Karnetta is the culmination of three generation of increasing despotism coming together into the pinnacle of evil. Edith is Helen's mother who just wanted to be an ordinary wife, mother, and future grandmother taking care of her family. When circumstances demand Edith becomes chief strategist and leader of the Resistance movement that finally deposes Karnetta. This is the story of how very ordinary people can become exceptional when events demand it. The deposing of Karnetta is partly achieved by using Doppelganger, biological machines running on artificial intelligence that are doubles of their human counterparts. Five Women is written without genre and moves back and forth through styles and expectations as the story demands. There are places where the story demands high level sexual depravity and violence, and potential readers are requested to understand this is necessary to tell the story. There are other places where the story telling descends into pure farce. Overall, this is a book for readers who are ably to assimilate multiple concepts and ideas acting at the same time.
