About the Book

The 6th edition of Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics of Turbomachinery gives the readers in depth knowledge of the diverse applications of Turbomachinery. Summary Of The Book Turbomachinery is the diverse field of mechanical engineering that deals with machines that transfers energy between the rotor and fluids and includes both compressors and turbines. The challenging field of Turbomachinery includes combustion, fluid mechanics, dynamics, vibrations, heat transfer, and structural mechanics. Fluid Mechanics And Thermodynamics Of Turbomachinery is a leading and classic textbook in the field of Turbomachinery. The book is divided into 10 chapters. It covers the Basic Principles, the Dimensional Analysis: Similitude, Axial-flow Turbines: Mean-line Analysis and Design, Two-dimensional Cascades, Axial-flow Compressors and Ducted Fans, Fans and Compressors. It also offers coverage on topics like Three-dimensional Flows in Axial Turbomachines, Radial Flow Gas Turbines, Centrifugal Pumps, Hydraulic Turbines and Wind Turbines. In a comprehensive manner the author has covered all the fundamentals of Turbomachinery in the field. Fluid mechanics and Thermodynamics is covered at the beginning of the book. The book is inclusive of updated figures that aid in better understanding of the topics. The book also has new examples and exercises at the end of the book. It includes new design studies and photos that apply the theories of the book. Originally published more than 4 decades ago, this updated edition was published in the year 2011. The book is used as the main textbook in graduate and senior level courses. It is also helpful for the professional engineers in the fields of global power, aerospace and other industries involved in the application and design of turbomachinery. About The Authors S. L. Dixon is an author. Other works by him include Worked examples in Turbomachinery and Some Three Dimensional Effects of Rotating Stall. Dr. Dixon has many scientific research papers in Turbomachinery to his credit. He has also delivered many lectures on Turbomachinery at the University of Liverpool for over four decades. He was the Chief Examiner in Mechanics at the Council of Engineering Institutions in the UK for 25 years. He is also a Senior Fellow at the University of Liverpool. Dr. Cesare Hall is a lecturer and writer. Dr. Hall has been lecturing on Turbomachinery at the University of Cambridge since 2005. He is an expert in the field of jet engine operation in natural wind. He has also worked with the Turbine Aerodynamics and Fan Aerodynamics group of Rolls-Royce plc. He is also involved in research of low-noise turbomachinery, aero-engine design for reduced emissions, and engine-installation interaction.
