Diplomarbeit aus dem Jahr 2005 im Fachbereich Führung und Personal - Sonstiges, Note: 2,3, Universität Trier, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Fast jeden Tag ist in der Zeitung zu Lesen, dass große wie auch kleine Unternehmen in Deutschland massiv Stellen abbauen. Als momentane Beispiele sind der Automobilkonzern Daimler Chrysler mit einem geplanten Stellenabbau von 8.500 Arbeitsplätzen oder die Personalreduktion von 10.000 bis 15.000 Stellen pro Jahr bis zum Jahr 2008 bei T-Com, der Festnetzsparte der Deutschen Telekom, zu nennen. Nach Angaben des neuesten Konjunkturtests des Münchner Ifo Instituts für Wirtschaftsforschung ist in naher Zukunft kein Ende des Stellenabbaus bei den deutschen Unternehmen in Sicht. Somit stellt sich die Frage nach den vorliegenden Gründen für den Stellenabbau der Unternehmen. Durch die Globalisierung der Wirtschaft entsteht weltweit ein erhöhter Wettbewerbsdruck zwischen den Unternehmen, wodurch sie gezwungen sind geeignete Maßnahmen zu ergreifen. Zu den angewandten Unternehmensstrategien im Kampf um das Überleben zählen beispielsweise Produktionsverlagerungen in Billiglohnländer, Outsourcing oder Übernahme von Mitbewerbern. Aus diesen Strategien heraus resultieren zahlreiche Streichungen von Arbeitsplätzen in den deutschen Produktionsstätten der Unternehmen. Eine weitere Unternehmensstrategie, um den harten Konkurrenzkampf zu überstehen, bildet das so genannte Downsizing. Dabei wird zur Einsparung von Kosten das Unternehmen durch einen planmäßigen Abbau von Personal verschlankt. Dieser Trend kommt aus den USA und wird dort bereits seit den 80er Jahren eingesetzt. In Europa werden seit den 90er Jahren verstärkt gezielte Personalabbaumaßnahmen durchgeführt. Bei einem Personalabbau steht insbesondere das Schicksal der zu entlassenden Mitarbeiter im Vordergrund. Doch auch für die Mitarbeiter, die im Unternehmen verbleiben, die so genannten Survivors oder Überlebenden, sind die Entlassungen ihrer Kollegen eine schmerzliche Erfahrung. Sie arbeit
