Delia Leary is one busy lady, with the opening of her cozy English-themed bakery, King Lear's, a commission to provide Juliet DaVinci's cake for what promises to be the biggest wedding in Verona's Vineyard's recent history, and the usual-but-crazy goings on at Boroughbridge House where she lives. Her best friend Thomasina is never available these days. Thomi is caring for her recently blinded father and she's newly in love with a hunk of a guy. And, oh yeah, the nutcase they caught for the last murder in the neighborhood-well, he's out of prison.
When, shortly after her grand opening, one of her employees is murdered and found in the walk-in fridge at the bakery with a load of poisoned blueberries in her mouth, Delia is compelled to track down the clues in order to save her business and keep all her plans from going off the rails. Despite warnings from the (yes, gorgeous) Detective Nicolo Montague, Delia pokes around and nearly gets herself toasted in the process. The bodies keep dropping, but Delia is determined to figure it out and get the killer locked up forever.
