About the Book

Fred Sy (fiktiver Name) studierte im Senegal Informatik. Dann kam er nach Deutschland an die Universität Düsseldorf und schrieb sich für Romanistik und Informationswissenschaft ein. Nach dem Studium eröffnete er zahlreiche Internetcafés und Computergeschäfte, heiratete und bekam zwei Kinder. Seit seiner Ankunft in Deutschland hat er nicht aufgehört, regelmäßig nach Senegal zu reisen. Jedes Mal nimmt er Geschenke, Geld, Elektrogeräte und Computer mit. Nach seinem Studium kaufte er Ländereien und Häuser im Senegal, doch denkt er nicht an seine endgültige Rückkehr, da sein Wohlstand in seiner ursprünglichen Heimat von seiner Arbeit in Deutschland abhängt. Er hat mittlerweile auch die deutsche Staatsbürgerschaft und trotzdem kann er kein Land wirklich als sein Zuhause bezeichnen. Dieses Fallbeispiel steht für das Leben von Millionen Menschen. Migranten leben zwischen zwei Welten und pflegen kontinuierlich ihre Kontakte in zwei, meist auch in mehreren Ländern. Die vorliegende Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit den Geschenken und monetären Mitteln, die jemand wie Fred Sy regelmäßig in seine Heimat bringt oder schickt. Als Länderbeispiel dient hierfür Senegal, das westafrikanische Land, welches kontinuierlich eine dynamische Migrationsbewegung aufweist.
About the Author: Hülya Dagli, geboren 1984, schloss im Jahr 2008 ihr Studium der Soziologie an der Ruhr-Universität Bochum mit dem akademischen Grad Bachelor of Arts erfolgreich ab. Um ihr fachliches Profil zu festigen und ihre Kenntnisse im Hinblick auf Schwellen- und Entwicklungsländer zu erweitern, absolvierte die Autorin im Anschluss das Masterprogramm Internationale Beziehungen und Entwicklungspolitik an der Universität Duisburg-Essen. Bereits während des Studiums entwickelte die Autorin ein besonderes Interesse für die Region Subsahara-Afrika und das Thema Migration. Sie sammelte umfassende praktische Erfahrungen in Subsahara-Afrika und arbeitete u.a. 2007 als Fremdsprachenassistentin am Deutschen Institut der Makerere University in Uganda. Die Autorin wirkte im internationalen Projektverbund International Civil Society Forum on Conflicts am Institut für Entwicklung und Frieden mit, der Handlungsempfehlungen für die politische Praxis im Bereich Migration entwickelt.
