Social work is a challenging career path. And to become a competent social worker requires time, energy, and a commitment to excellence.
Field Education is a required component of any social work education program. The field education course enables you to experience, for the first time, the realities of social work practice outside the classroom.
Field Education can be rewarding, however, it can also be frustrating, confusing, and intimidating. This new guide is designed to address these realities, and empower you to get on the right path. Succinctly and empathetically, it explains what Field Education is and is not and ensures that you will be prepared for the work ahead of you.
Author Anne Martine Pierre-Pierre, PhD, LCSW, spent sixteen years directing Field Education programs. She began her journey into the field as an agency Field Instructor and went on to become a Director of Field Education at Savannah State University in Georgia and Barry University in Florida. In her manual, she distills, with humor, the basics of Field Education into short, easily digested and captivating chapters. Topics covered include the following:
- the elements of a Field Education course
- students' common concerns
- problems often encountered in the field
- characteristics and habits of successful social workers
Reflective questions throughout the book will help you retain the information you learn.
The Real Story of Field Education is a must-read for all hoping to make the leap from intern to practitioner.
