About the Book

"From Monk to Elvis" is the sequel to "The Nearly Man", a book which tells the true story of an 11 yr. old boy, who leaves home to join a monastery in 1960. The end to this unusual story, was when he was just 22 years old, which was a very early age for any autobiography to reach it's natural conclusion. Readers wanted to know much more, and to learn what happened to the author, after the original story ended. Thus, "From Monk to Elvis" is to be the continuing story that the readers demanded. It tells in graphic detail, the life of the author after he had moved on from that stage of his story. It details his life's path, after he had departed the monastic life. His life inside the monastery was fraught with uncertainty, stress and unhappiness, yet he was soon to find out, that returning to life back in the real world, which he left as a boy, was to be no easier. Life outside the cloisters would present him with many problems and challenges, that he would find great difficulty in coming to terms with. His life after leaving the monastery, was even more traumatic than the monastic life itself. He finds that adapting to life in a secular world is even more challenging and problematic, than the unusual life-style he had left behind. From Monk to Elvis tells of his re-visits to the three Monastic Houses, where he had spent eleven years of his young life. His story covers a life-time of some 25 jobs over a career spanning some 45 years. Many of the jobs he undertook were unusual, totally unsuitable, or even disastrous. It is only towards the end, that he finally discovers some fulfillment in what he is doing, an inner peace, and a way of life that gives him great satisfaction and peace of mind.
About the Author: The author is Stephen Nearey, a first time author in 2013 when his first book, "The Nearly Man," was published. Until that date he was unlikely author, as he was not even a regular reader of books. After having been an avid reader in his 11 years of education, he then stopped reading altogether. Some forty years later, it was only due to the promptings of a friend, that he decided to write his memoirs, "The Nearly Man". This triggered something inside of him and he has since become a regular reader once more, and keen to write. The sequel to his 1st Autobiography, "From Monk to Elvis" has again stirred his desire to write, and it is his intention to continuing being an author, albeit in a different genre, once his two autobiographical works are widely available in the marketplace. After spending much of his young life in the monastic world, Stephen eventually settled into the world of business, in various genres during a career spanning 45 years. He now enjoys reading, writing and spends much of his spare time as an Elvis Presley tribute artist which he does to raise money for Cancer Research and other charities.
