About the Book

Brock Scott's stomach was in knots as his mom inched her 1974 Chevy Impala up to the curb in front of Tower Records across the street from the San Diego Sports Arena. He was 13 years old on that warm summer night in 1980, and he was about to experience his very first rock and roll concert. The band was Queen, and it was a night that would change his life forever. Hidden under his clothes was a Vivitar 110 Instamatic camera and flash bar. From his seats just 20 feet from the stage he shot 24 photos that marked the beginning of a 40 plus year rock and roll adventure. That night a spark was lit, and he soon found a way to combine his love of music and photography which eventually lead to a career as a commercial photographer. For him and his friends, the plan was always the same, find a show that they wanted to see, buy whatever tickets they could afford and get to the venue early to enjoy the fellowship of other like-minded music fanatics. As show time approached, they would strategically hide their cameras on their person, head into the venue and find a way to sneak down to the front row to document the band. From the Parking Lot to the Front Row is his compelling story of the people he would meet along the way, the road trips, the hundreds of shows they would see, and the incredible photos they would take of some of the biggest names in Rock and Roll. If you are a fan of rock and roll, this could be your story too! This book contains photos of the author and his friends traveling through California and elsewhere on numerous road trips in search of good times and great music. Included in the book you will also find over 300 pictures of some of the greatest bands in rock and roll. From Aerosmith to ZZ Top, Rush to Elton John, Tom Petty to Tesla, we saw them all and documented every bit of it.
About the Author: Born and raised in San Diego, my photographic journey started in 1980 when a friend offered to show me how to print a black and white negative in my junior high darkroom. I was mesmerized, watching the image slowly appear on paper as I rocked the tray back and forth.

Within days, I borrowed a 35mm camera from my grandfather. I spent the next 5 years living, sleeping and breathing photography! I took pictures of friends, pets, landscapes - anything that caught my eye.
My high school teachers realized photography had turned into my passion and allowed me to shoot pictures for the school's newspaper and yearbook. As a senior, I was given the opportunity to teach a yearbook photography class to my fellow students.

I shot my first wedding at the age of 14. The next year I had my first commercial job for a family friend who owned a clothing line. It was during this time that I also fell in love with music. Along with friends, I photographed just about every concert that we attended in Southern California.

Having decided to pursue a career in professional photography, I enrolled at the prestigious Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara. At night, I worked at a custom black and white lab, Specialty Photo, where I became a master black and white printer. After three very inspirational years, I graduated in 1989 with a BA in Advertising/Illustration Photography.

I returned to San Diego to work at a prominent portrait and sports photography company. Starting as a lead photographer, I advanced into crew training and personnel manager over the course of five years. In that time, I learned how to use all of my technical training and problem-solving skills to work directly with clients to capture their vision on film.

In 1996, I opened Scott Photo (now Brock Scott Photography). I have had the great fortune to photograph hundreds of weddings and thousands of commercial jobs for both local and national clients. Some of best largest clients have been with me for decades.

I truly love collaborating with my clients to take an idea and create images that wow them. I relish in my role of calming a nervous couple by guiding them through the wedding photography process without stress or concern. I love helping people feel at ease in front of the camera to be who they really are. I embrace the challenge of photographing tricky objects - working with light to make products look their best.

Recent years have found me growing as a digital arts educator and returning to my roots of live music photography and newly found skills as a video producer and editor. Between 2019 and 2021 I have completed over 25 hi energy music videos taking each song from concept to final editing.

Most of all though, I just love picking up my camera, just as I did at age 14, and going out to shoot whatever catches my eye and imagination.
