About the Book

It's late Fall in the year 2016. Two drinking buddies; one a Lieutenant General at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the other a wealthy civilian business man, discuss the advantages of developing fusion energy. The obvious conclusion is that the government needs to finish the Manhattan Project! Both men realize that the government could do in 4 years or less, what the private sector has failed to do in more than 60 years of empty promises. Fusion energy promises to solve 80% of the World's problems quickly, if only someone in the right position would take the initiative. It turns out that our 3-star General in the story is the one man in the World to get it done. General Frank Wilson just happens to be the top General at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Both men are aware that once fusion arrives, all the other forms of energy will immediately become obsolete. There's no doubt or debate about that. Fusion is the ultimate energy because, unlike Fission, it promises ECSAFE: Economical, Clean, Safe, Abundant, and (virtually) Free Energy. Scientists have been creating fusion since the 1950's. The problem is . . . containment. Our two heroes launch a quest to develop fusion containment technology now . . . rather than later. Because they are too well aware of how desperately we needed it yesterday, or sooner. They also know that later . . . may be too late! Both men know that fusion energy will end the Terror Wars and it will quell all the fears of Global Warming. Fusion will cause the economy of the entire World to surge towards unprecedented levels. Extending and finishing the Manhattan Project to develop fusion energy will offer the one solution that will instantly bring the World back from the brink! The General becomes an icon of history because he is in the precise position to acquire the black budget funding, and he alone holds the power to get the job done. As a result of some gentle prodding by his civilian friend, General Wilson decides to do it, but then he surprises his friend by choosing him, (the civilian business man) to become the director of the project. They name the project, "Project Starshine". Together, with the might of America behind them, they locate a team of four MIT grads with Ph.D's in experimental plasma physics, to do the scientific and experimental work at Los Alamos, New Mexico. The special team is chosen because they have a unique and different, new perspective about how to contain the heat extremes inherent with fusion technology. They are a team of especially gifted out-of-the-box thinkers, with can-do attitudes. "Can't" and "impossible" are two words they simply do not recognize. They know they can accomplish the task and they are determined to succeed in record time, and well under budget. Add a couple of beautiful women with genius level minds. Mix them gently with equally interesting male intellects . . . and stir. A story of love, greed, suspense, intrigue, espionage and determination will explode within your heart, mind and soul. Will they do it? Will they succeed? How? Read "Fusion Now", to discover for yourself just how easily it might be done, and what it would mean to the World. What if our government might actually wake up and get fully behind finishing the Manhattan Project as if: failure was not an option? Because it truly is not!
About the Author: W.E. (Bill) Powelson hails from the deep South Texas border town of McAllen. He is currently retired (err-uhh, unemployable) and living happily in Daytona Beach, Florida, on the twelve dollars and fifteen cents he saved as a working Honky Tonk drummer. After a lifelong career playing music (drums) for his supper, he is now in his golden years and has discovered that writing (for the fun of it) helps to keep a smile on his face. He is the author of many fictional digital and paperback novels and five digital (html) e-books on the art of drumming; all of which may be viewed and studied online (or off), by going to "The Homestudy Institute of Drums" on the World Wide Web
