About the Book

The Indians called him "Wind-That-Gallops, a gust of wind that wears a horse's skin." Mustangers called him "Wild Shadow" for the way he followed them stealthily, learning all their tricks. To young Rube Tucker, he was the prize of a lifetime, perhaps the last Spanish-Arabian still running wild in the Old West. Prepare to be swept away by this romantic, hard-action adventure about the glory days of professional mustanging in the American West. Millions thrilled to the Boy's LIfe short story, then to the Putnam novel and then the Dell paperback-all many years apart-but this is the author's version, the whole story, restored and revised for a new audience and it is 23% longer. Galloping Wind keeps circling back, generation after generation, because it truly earns its spurs.
About the Author: Zoltan Malocsay grew up in Oklahoma, riding horses and flying airplanes. He worked his way through college as a daily newspaper reporter and magazine author, publishing over a million words before leaving university. After graduating Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Oklahoma's Professional Writing School (now gone), he studied at the University of Iowa's Writer's Workshop. As Contributing Editor for several historical magazines, Zoltan became fascinated by the adventures of actual mustang stallions and offered Galloping Wind as a short story to Boy's Life magazine, which had a huge circulation at that time, including millions of girls who also enjoyed its stories. The short story proved very popular and Zoltan sold them a total of 14 fiction adventures, more than any other living author. Years later, G.P. Putnam's Sons bought the novel version out of their "slush pile" of unsolicited mail, but then decided to print a much shorter version than originally planned. Ten years later, Dell published the same version as a mass-market paperback. It went through two printings at Dell. Zoltan always yearned to publish the whole story and then do a movie but could never find the right agent. When he and his British wife stopped traveling for magazine companies, Zoltan became a goldsmith with a line of 14k, high fashion earrings. He later sold Zoltan Designs and went into real estate in Colorado Springs so they could own a home of their own. Zoltan also wrote and published the 350-page Trails Guide-Denver to Pikes Peak, which became the standard reference to that part of Colorado, plus Opening Forbidden Lakes-Fishing Colorado's Watersheds Without Getting Arrested. He was also ghostwriter of two more books. Today, Zoltan and his wife live in Crystal Park above Manitou Spring in a mountain home that they designed themselves. They are now expanding their publishing firm called Squeezy Press, joking that Zoltan has the press credentials and Dolores has the squeezy credentials.
