Joris-Karl Huysmans: Gegen den Strich Huysmans' Roman, das Kultbuch der Dekadenz, beschreibt das exzentrische Leben des französischen Adeligen Jean Floressas des Esseintes, der sich gelangweilt von der gehobenen Gesellschaft abwendet und außerhalb von Paris ein Haus bezieht, das er mit allerlei ästhetizistischen Leckerbissen ausstatten lässt. Berühmter Höhepunkt seines eigenwilligen Kunst- und Schönheitsbegriffes ist die Schildkröte, die er als Schmuck anschafft und deren Panzer er mit Gold besetzen lässt, bis das Tier daran stirbt. Umschlaggestaltung von Rainer Richter unter Verwendung einer Porträtzeichnung von Josefine Weinschrott. Gesetzt aus der Minion Pro, 11 pt. Henricus - Edition Deutsche Klassik GmbH Über den Autor: 1848 als Sohn des holländischen Lithografen Godfried Huysmans und der Lehrerin Malvina Badin in Paris geboren, tritt Charles Marie Georges Huysmans in den mittleren Dienst des französischen Innenminsteriums ein, wo er bis 1898 tätig bleiben wird. 1874 erscheint mit der Gedichtsammlung Le Drageoir aux épices seine erste Veröffentlichung, seither verwendet er den flämisch wirkenden Vornamen Joris-Karl. Huysmans schließt sich den Naturalisten um Émile Zola an, seinen Romanen aus dem Milieu der Pariser Unterschicht bleibt größerer Erfolg verwehrt. Erst 1884 mit Gegen den Strich erfährt er eine gewisse Anerkennung, dies allerdings zunächst eher in intellektuellen Kreisen. Seinen größten kommerziellen Erfolg
