Ein Prätendent aus dem 16. Jahrhundert. Eine im Jahre 1572 erloschene Linie desselben Hauses, dessen jüngere Linie den Namen Reuß führt, hatte, außer beträchtlichen Besitzungen im Voigt- und Pleißnerlande, welche letztere zum Teil an die Schönburge übergegangen sind, auch das Burggrafentum Meißen längere Zeit innegehabt, war aber desselben und ihrer wichtigsten Lehen unter den Händeln der Größern, der sächsischen Fürsten namentlich und der böhmischen Könige, schon vor ihrem Erlöschen verlustig gegangen. [Fußnote] Einer der letzten dieses Stammes war Heinrich IV., welcher 1520 gestorben ist. Derselbe war angeblich seit 1506 in zweiter Ehe mit einer Tochter des Fürsten Waldemar zu Anhalt, Barbara, vermählt. Der Name der ersten Gemahlin ist unbekannt; ihre Existenz soll aber aus einigen Urkunden erhellen. Zwischen der ersten und zweiten Ehe hatte er, wie er später erklärte, mit einer gewissen Margareta Pigkler einen Sohn erzeugt, den er gleichfalls Heinrich nannte, welchen Namen bekanntlich alle Söhne des Hauses Reuß führen, und derselbe mag etwa um das Jahr 1500 geboren worden sein. Er war bei seinem Vater aufgewachsen und längere Zeit dessen einziges Kind, ward wie ein ehelicher Sohn gehalten, und wußte nicht anders, als daß er das wirklich sei. Ja, da die Ehe mit der Barbara von Anhalt anfangs unfruchtbar war, so hatte sie, wie es später hieß, durch ihren Gemahl dazu vermocht, jenen Heinrich in Briefen an ihre Verwandten und sonst für ihren eigenen leiblichen Sohn ausgegeben. Das wäre denn die große Lüge [Fußnote] gewesen, welche ihr und ihrer ganzen Familie, ganz besonders aber dem unglücklichen Opfer dieser Täuschung, später so viele Not bereitet hat. In Verfolg derselben und auf ihren Anlaß hatte Barbaras Bruder, Fürst Wolfgang zu Anhalt, den jungen Heinrich einige Zeit bei sich, worauf er dem Grafen Wilhelm zu Henneberg zu weiterer Erziehung übergeben ward. Auch scheint ihm die Herrschaft Spremberg zugeteilt worden zu sein.
