In Zusammenarbeit sorgen die anatomischen Strukturen und die physiologischen Begebenheiten für eine Umsetzung von Schallwellen in für das Gehirn auswertbare Nervenimpulse. Die Erforschung des Gehörsinns liegt im Schnittpunkt mehrerer wissenschaftlicher Disziplinen. So beschäftigen sich unter anderem die Medizin, die Akustik aber auch die Psychologie und die Phonetik mit Teilaspekten des Gehörs und der Hörwahrnehmung. Während anatomische Strukturen und zum Teil auch physiologische Abläufe qualitativ und quantitativ beobachtet und analysiert werden können, ist die Hörwahrnehmung der direkten Beobachtung entzogen. Als Teil des individuellen Bewusstseins der Wahrnehmenden ist sie nur über indirekte Beobachtungen durch Indikatoren und Test zugänglich. Jede Form von Untersuchung wiederum stößt schnell an Grenzen, da die beteiligten Sinnesorgane und physiologischen Vorgänge sehr fein, verletzlich und komplex sind und durch minimale Veränderungen in ihrer Funktion gestört werden können. Diese Umstände haben dazu beigetragen, dass noch viele Zusammenhänge der menschlichen Hörwahrnehmung ungeklärt sind. Diese Arbeit befasst sich mit der Darstellung des Aufbaus und der Funktion der Hörbahn des Menschen aus phonetischer und anatomischer Sicht. Das Ziel dieser Arbeit besteht darin, einen Überblick über die Anatomie und Physiologie des Gehörs zu geben und speziell die otoakustischen Emissionen in ihrer Anwendung als Hilfe zur Diagnosestellung darzustellen. Auch für viele praktische Anwendungen, wie dem Hörscreening und der Diagnosestellung und adäquaten Therapie bei Schwerhöri
