Jahrhundert: Albrecht von Haller umfangreiches Wirken als Kritiker wissenschaftlicher und literarischer Neuerscheinungen Der Berner Universalgelehrte zahlt zu den wichtigsten Gestalten des Jahrhunderts der Aufklarung und ist einer der bedeutendsten Wissenschaftler der Schweiz aller Zeiten. Er hat sich in unzahligen Bereichen einen Namen gemacht: als Dichter von Die Alpen, als Botaniker, als Arzt, als Professor fur Anatomie und Physiologie in Gottingen und nicht zuletzt durch sein umfangreiches Korrespondenznetz. Eine Seite von Hallers vielseitigem Schaffen ist bis heute jedoch kaum bekannt: seine Literaturkritik. Insgesamt verfasste er wahrend mehr als dreissig Jahren (1745-1777) gegen 9000 Kritiken von Buchern aus verschiedensten Wissenschaftsbereichen (Medizin, Botanik, Naturgeschichte, Mathematik, Philosophie, Theologie), davon rund tausend Kritiken zu literarischen Neuerscheinungen des 18. Jahrhunderts. Veroffentlich wurden sie in der fuhrenden gelehrten Zeitschrift der damaligen Zeit, den Gottingischen Gelehrten Anzeigen. Haller nahm damit eine Schlusselposition in der Literaturkritik im deutschsprachigen Raum ein. Die vorliegende Studie untersucht insbesondere die literarischen Rezensionen Hallers, zieht aber auch Kritiken aus anderen Fachbereichen zum Vergleich heran. In einem ersten Schritt werden Hallers Rezensionsprinzipien beleuchtet und seine Kritiken einer sprachlich-stilistischen Analyse unterzogen. Schwerpunkt der Analyse bildet die Frage, nach welchen Wertvorstellungen Haller literarische Werke beurteilt, um Grundzuge und Prinzipien seiner literaturkritischen Anschauung zu rekonstruieren. Die Darstellung der geographischen Dimension von Hallers literaturkritischem Schaffen zeigt, wie international seine kritische Berichterstattung ausgerichtet ist. Ein Vergleich Hallers mit anderen Kritikern seiner Zeit und eine interdisziplinarere Gegenuberstellung von Hallers literarischen Kritiken mit solchen aus anderen Fachbereichen runden die Analyse ab. Haller nahert sich dem literarischen Gegenstand mit dem Blick und den Methoden eines Gelehrten. Hallers gelehrte Kritik zeugt auf eindrucksvolle Weise vom Ineinanderwirken von Dichtung und Wissenschaft.
