Die Eigenschaften und Anforderungen der "Generation Y" beschäftigen momentan zahlreiche Unternehmensverantwortliche, Personalmanager sowie Wissenschaftler verschiedener Fachbereiche, sodass auch in der Tagespresse vermehrt über Vorstellungen und Werte dieser Generation berichtet und diskutiert wird. Doch wer sind diese jungen Menschen, in Amerika "Trophy Kids" oder "Millennials" genannt, wirklich? Als die drei wichtigsten Anforderungen an Arbeitgeber nennen Mitglieder der "Generation Y" laut Gilles "Entwicklungsmöglichkeiten", "kollegiale Arbeitsatmosphäre" und "Work-Life-Balance" (Gilles, 2011, S.1). Demnach ist für die Nachwuchskräfte des Arbeitsmarktes der "Service", den ein Arbeitgeber bietet, wichtiger als ein hohes Gehalt. Von Bedeutung scheint für die "Generation Y" insbesondere auch das Vorhandensein intrinsischer Motivation und in diesem Zusammenhang eine gerechte Vergütung zu sein (vgl. Buchhorn et al., 2011, S. 114; vgl. Donkor, 2008, Internetquelle 1; vgl. Parment, 2011, S.1). Für Unternehmen stellt sich in Anbetracht dieser charakteristischen Merkmale die Frage, ob Prozesse und Gewohnheiten im Unternehmen sowie die Unternehmenskultur den Vorstellungen der "Generation Y" entsprechen oder ob Konflikte bevorstehen und Veränderungen notwendig sind, um diese Generation erfolgreich als Arbeitnehmer zu integrieren. Im Rahmen dieser Studie sollen charakteristische Merkmale der "Generation Y" untersucht werden, um herauszufinden, welchen Stellenwert diese Generation dem Faktor Vergütung beimisst. Aus den Erkenntnissen der Literaturanalyse zum aktuellen Forschungsstand und den Auswertungen einer eigenen Erhebung werden Handlungsempfehlungen für Unternehmen abgeleitet.
About the Author: Nach ihrer Berufsausbildung zur Versicherungskauffrau bei einem Kölner Versicherungsmakler entschied sich die Autorin, ihre fachlichen Qualifikationen im Bereich der Betriebswirtschaft, verbunden mit ihrem persönlichen Interessengebiet Psychologie, zu erweitern. Das Studium der Wirtschaftspsychologie an der Leuphana Universität Lüneburg schloss sie im Jahre 2012 mit dem akademischen Grad des Bachelor of Science ab. Im Oktober 2012 nahm die Autorin an dieser Universität das viersemestrige Masterstudium "Management and Entrepreneurship" auf. Bereits während des Erststudiums erwarb die Autorin bei der führenden Fachorganisation für Personalmanagement und Personalführung in Deutschland umfangreiche praktische Erfahrungen im Bereich des Personalmanagements. Darüber hinaus engagierte sie sich in einer studentischen Initiative, die realitätsnahe Assessment-Center-Trainings für Studierende organisiert und durchführt. Während des Studiums entwickelte die Autorin ein besonderes Interesse für das Thema Vergütungsmanagement, insbesondere in Verbindung mit Gerechtigkeits- und Motivationstheorien. Aufgrund ihrer Begeisterung für aktuelle gesellschaftliche Entwicklungen entstand schließlich die Motivation, eine empirische Untersuchung der "Generation Y", der auch die Autorin angehört, durchzuführen.
