La gente de la sierra presenta un trocito de la historia de España. Oficialmente, la Guerra Civil se acabó en 1.939, pero la resistencia armada contra Franco y su Régimen no había terminado. En los años 40, unos grupos de guerrilleros salieron de sus escondites en las sierras para hostigar a la dictadura e intentar crear un clima de sublevación en toda la peninsula. Durante unos años mantuvieron en vilo a las fuerzas del Régimen. Pocas noticias se filtraban al público dentro o fuera de España de aquella guerra que en Málaga y Granada llegó a su apogeo en los años 1948-49. Los rebeldes luchaban contra Franco y el fascismo, luchaban contra una represión feroz y por su propia supervivencia. Pero luchaban en una guerra que no podían ganar. Se sacrificaban por un sueño imposible.

Había actos de coraje y de cobardía, de tragedia y de traición. Y en medio los campesinos, atrapados entre la gente de la sierra y las fuerzas franquistas. En este libro hablan derechistas e izquierdistas, hablan amas de casa y campesinos guerrilleros y hasta una general de la Guardia Civil. El autor ha buscado datos en todos los archivos disponibles, desde Madrid hasta Washington. Y, como todos los historiadores, ha tropezado con el muro del secreto oficial que todavía existe con respecto a muchos detalles de la historia reciente de España, incluso de los miles de víctimas (114.000, según estimados fiables) de la guerra y la posguerra, enterrados en fosas comunes y no identificados.
