About the Book

These poems are accompanied by a short story that tells the thoughts behind each poem. The book is filled with local color, and you will find yourself right there with the author...wanting to join the author on any of those rides across the ranch that inspired the writing of these poems and stories. The author has lived a life filled with adventures. This book gives you a much deeper insight into lessons learned through good and bad choices. You will find yourself in many places, physically and mentally, thinking over what you have read. You will look out through the author's eyes...off a mountain top...across a beautiful valley. Or you may look up into the night sky at all those stars and shiver thinking about, "How big (is) our God?" These are poems that come right from the heart. Each time you read a poem you will gain from that reading no matter how many times you read it. Then as you read the story that accompanies the poem you will be drawn even closer to this person that has learned the Lord has much to offer. Each poem is a Testimony to the blessings of life. See if you can count all you gain from this book; it has to do with living and learning. It is not hard to figure out the author is very close to animals especially horses. Everyone has a heart for horses and the love of the heart returns through the stories in this book. We have all heard or read that God is Love. You will find as you read through these poems and stories an undeniable recognition of love felt by the author; inspirations that can only be given to us by God. A Father that loves us so much that He was willing to give His Son to die to us. This book is able to take you in any direction you want to go. You may want to use it to get you through the day or use it to make the day go away. You decide how to use this book. You will find this book is your friend, to enjoy any place, any time, and with any one!
About the Author: Sonny was born into a ranch family that has been in the ranching business since the 1860's. He worked on some of the biggest ranches in Nebraska and also rode the Nebraska State Rodeo Association circuit. During his youth, Sonny served in the Army as a paratrooper. After his obligated service, Sonny became involved with four wheel-drive racing. This was the start of his stunt driving career. Sonny was the first person to jump a four wheel-drive over 100 feet through the air. Soon after that, Sonny became the star of the very first Houston Astrodome Thrill Show. Sonny's notoriety gained him an acting role in the movie, "Hell, Let's Wreck It" and shortly after that, he was a guest on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Sonny never forgot his roots, however, and continued to write about his true passion as a cowboy poet. Sony's cowboy poetry has been displayed in the White House. Sony continued his stunt career until the filming of an episode of That's Incredible, where he ran through "The Tunnel of Fire." Sonny was on the show as the season opener. The date and site for The Tunnel of Fire was March the 17th 1980, located in Soledad Canyon, California. Sonny's life was forever changed when he went into that tunnel, expecting to set an all time world record for a run through a 2000 degree 150 foot fire tunnel--only to discover four seconds later that the safety company had put the wrong gloves on his hands. Sonny's hands were destroyed in the next minute. He stumbled and fell out of the other end of the tunnel, only to spend the next two years in the hospital. Six million dollars was spent rebuilding his hands during the next two years. Thirty years later he learned he was not in the tunnel of fire alone. Sonny has had a Guardian Angel with him all his life. It took Sonny another two years to learn how to use his rebuilt hands. All during this time, Sonny was asking himself what he was going to do to make a living with his crippled hands. While he was in the hospital, he gave a lot of thought to what he could do, and the answer was horses. Sonny made a decision to study horse psychology. Sonny built a successful business working with difficult horses, retraining them with great success. He continues to write and perform cowboy poetry, and he is highly sought after for public speaking engagements. Sonny has also become a cowboy preacher for the Lord. You can see more of him by searching Loving Cross Cowboy Ministry on Youtube.
