Bachelorarbeit aus dem Jahr 2013 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Neuere Deutsche Literatur, Note: 1,3, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Diese Arbeit soll das Geschäftsmodell des Kolportageromans untersuchen. Die gewonnenen Erkenntnisse werden auf Karl Mays Roman "Das Waldröschen" angewendet. Schwerpunkt der Untersuchung ist neben der literarischen Einordnung das mögliche wirtschaftliche Interesse von Leser, Verleger und Autoren und damit verbunden die Frage, ob an einem Kolportageroman alle gleichermaßen profitiert haben oder aber, ob es Gewinner und Verlierer gab. Münchmeyer als typischer Verleger, May als typischer Autor des Kolportageromans und sein Roman "Das Waldröschen" wurden ausgewählt, da es sich um einen der bekanntesten, erfolgreichsten und somit auch am besten untersuchten Kolportageromane handelt. Obwohl das Genre des Kolportageromans und die Kolportage besonders im Buchhandel des 19. Jahrhundert eine sehr wichtige Rolle gespielt haben, hat beides in der Geschichte des Buchhandels nicht viel Beachtung gefunden. Karl May ist ein gut erforschter Autor. Das Waldröschen stellt seinen bekanntesten Kolportageroman dar. Seitdem der Verlag Olms Presse in Hildesheim 1969 in einem Reprint die Originalfassung des Waldröschens als Faksimiledruck veröffentlicht hat, hat sich die Forschungslage um das Waldröschen deutlich verbessert. Da das Papier der Kolportageheftchen von einer sehr schlechten Qualität war und daher nicht lange hielt, ist es heute schwierig, an Originale zu gelangen. Des Weiteren wurden die Hefte selten aufbewahrt, vor allem weil es sich im damaligen Verständnis des seriösen Buchpublikums um "Schundliteratur" handelte. Dementsprechend war es auch sehr schwierig, an die unveränderte Originalausgabe des Waldröschens zu gelangen, was sich auch auf die Forschungslage auswirkte. Der Karl-May-Verlag hatte 1913 alle Rechte an den Münchmeyer-Romanen erworben und dann nur noch stark überarbeitete Versionen veröffentlicht.
