About the Book

The worst part about the creature wasn't the piercing void of its eyes. It wasn't the clasps bolting the mask onto its head. It wasn't the mortician's suit it wore, or the twitching, stuttering way it moved. It was the smile that sent a shiver through little James Baldur. It was the smile and the hunger behind it. Up until the woman without a mouth had dragged him into a book of his father's stories, James had been a pretty standard kid. Imaginative, thoughtful, perpetually at war with the school bully. But when he was sucked inside the fantasy world of his father's tortured imagination, everything changed. Facing your father's demons will do terrible things to a boy. With his exit page stolen by the seductively evil Gladhands and a world of twisted fairy-tales in front of him, James has no choice but to soldier forward. He won't be alone, however; he soon finds himself accompanied by an overly amorous mouse, a tender giant, and a vampire who is tired of the negative stereotypes surrounding his people. With these friends he may have just the help he needs to survive and make things right in his father's world.
About the Author: Andrew J. Krause is a firm believer that some of the most profound truths come to us in the form of lies. He likes writing flawed people who do flawed things. It is very rare that one will find a hero in his works, though one will come across more than a fair share of villains. He adores the strange and the surreal because he feels it most mimics our experience here, and he finds comfort in our foibles. He gives one word of caution about the things that he writes, it is not for the timid nor squeamish. If you are the type of person who wants a saccharine happy ending romp through the lilies, you are not likely to find it in the pages that he's written. He finds value in both ends of the spectrum, high and low, and feel that they go hand in hand, and to ignore one is to do a disservice to the work itself. If this sounds like an adventure you'd enjoy, then open a page and dive right in.
