Inhaltsangabe: Einleitung: Globalisierung wird in Deutschland oft mit steigendem internationalem Konkurrenzdruck, Mehrarbeit und Arbeitsplatzverlust verbunden, also mit Negativem. In einer Umfrage des Instituts für Demoskopie Allensbach im März 2004 sagten 52 % der Deutschen, dass die Globalisierung im Inland Arbeitsplätze kostet und 42 % sahen mehr Risiken als Chancen. „Deutschland ist ein Gewinner der Globalisierung; wir reden viel zu viel über die negativen Folgen der Globalisierung und viel zu wenig über die positiven Seiten", meint dagegen Thomas Straubhaar, Direktor des Hamburgischen Weltwirtschafts-Instituts (HWWI). Globalisierung kann mit „Weltorientierung" übersetzt werden. Genauer wird darunter die engere Verflechtung von Ländern und Völkern der Welt verstanden, die durch die enorme Senkung der Transport- und Kommunikationskosten und die Beseitigung künstlicher Schranken herbeigeführt wurde. Der grenzüberschreitende Strom von Gütern, Dienstleistungen, Kapital, Wissen und Menschen wird jetzt in geringerem Maße behindert oder unterbunden. Die internationale Verflechtung der Volkswirtschaften nimmt zu. Globalisierung ist ein Prozess der zunehmenden Verfeinerung der Arbeitsteilung, der zunehmenden Professionalisierung. Durch die Senkung der Transport- und Kommunikationskosten ist der internationale Handel lukrativer geworden, der Vorteil der lokalen Anbieter hat abgenommen. Die Konkurrenz ist nun größer. Aber Spezialisierung spart Kosten, und wer seine Nische gefunden hat ist jetzt weltweit gefragt. Dies gilt sowohl für die Güter- und Dienstleistungsmärkte, als auch für die Arbeits- und Kapitalmärkte. Außerdem wurden künstliche Handelsschranken beseitigt. So wurden internationale Standards eingeführt, die englische Sprache verbreitet, sowie handelspolitische Maßnahmen, wie Zölle, reduziert. Mit der wirtschaftlichen Öffnung Chinas seit Beginn der 80er Jahre und dem Ende des Kommunismus in der ehemaligen Sowjetunion und den mittel- und osteuropäischen Staaten
