About the Book

This book was written because for many years Dr. White-johnson has been constantly asked "how do you do it all?" "How do you manage your life so it flows so easily?" At first, she was a little taken aback by these questions because she didn't think that her life was easy and it never had been easy. She knew what she had gone through to become the woman that she is but she also knew that folks were only looking at the finished product and really didn't know the story behind the actual process. They were unaware of her personal values and beliefs, the heartache and the sacrifices she endured and they didn't know about the abundance of blessings that she had received. Dr. White-johnson believed that she lived her life like many others but after receiving so many inquiries about how she managed her life she began to think that perhaps there was more to her story than she realized. She looked at it as just her unique approach to my life...Happiness is her ultimate goal so she crafted a system that works for her. She is dedicated to everything that she does and she commits only to excellence... She takes her mistakes as lessons learned and only "stumbles softly" from them. She works hard to "go hard" and this is what this book is all about. This book provides a glimpse into her world...the things that she does daily that keep her on the right side of life. Is she perfect? Hell no! But is she a fighter? Hell yes! With every inhaled breath that she breathes and to the core of her soul she fights for her sanity, blessings and existence every day. These are the skills that have worked for her over the years and she strongly believes that if you give life the best that these can work for you too! In this book Dr. White-johnson shares her personal struggles for significance illustrated with stories of her own life experience about how she has needed to "Go Hard and Stumble Softly" in her quest for success. She focuses on creating action plans, "popcorn responses" and self-analysis as she teaches readers that "Going Hard" is not just doing things, because it is a mindset. It is about believing that you can "be hard" despite life's circumstances, socioeconomic status, race, class and perhaps even gender. And when life is rough and you stumble, you do it softly and you get right back up again. It's all about mind over matter, as much as you mind is as much as it matters and if you don't mind, then it shouldn't matter... The book is divided into unique parts: G: Getting over yourself O: Overcoming your odds H: Hesitancy, Heart, Honesty, Hustling and a healthy balance A: Anger and Artillery R: Remembrance, Resilience, Restoration, Renewal and Righteousness D: Dreams, Depth and Destiny It also includes discussions about Raising Children Hard, Stuff You Need to Go Hard, "Mama Musts" and Twelve Teasers to Go Hard. Dr. White-johnson's positive perspective of life is consistent throughout the chapters and the book serves as an inspirational and motivational guide for anyone searching for positive change in their lives.
