About the Book

Two Old Testament Intercessions and the Current Liturgical Practice]The third volume in the series "Impulses for Liturgy and Worship" examines a central and difficult form of intercessory prayer. In the extensive middle part of the volume the Old Testament scholar Jurgen Ebach reads those texts in which Moses and Job appear as intercessors and gains impulses for a contemporary theology and practice of worship intercession. In Moses and Job it can be discovered how biblically one can speak of a common action of God and man, which finds a linguistic form in intercession. People step into the gap that opens between God's mercy and His righteousness. They themselves step into the breach before God for others; they move and change God.Alexander Deeg's introductory contribution reflects the current practice of intercession and explores the questionability and chances of worship for others. Christian Lehnert concludes the volume with reflections on the language of liturgical intercession.
