About the Author: Francesco Di Pietro, 1950, è pensionato da alcuni mesi. Laureato in Giurisprudenza a Padova, ha trascorso 36 anni in un gruppo di rilevanza nazionale e internazionale negli uffici personale, legale, immobiliare. È nato e risiede a Udine ma l'ascendenza paterna è molisana. Vive con la moglie, conosciuta all'Università, insegnante di Diritto in scuola tecnica, e una figlia, laureanda magistrale in Economia, più un'affettuosa bastardina di tre anni dal mantello miele e gli occhi chiari. È appassionato di escursioni in montagna, fra Alpi Carniche e Alpi Giulie, di natura e di vita all'aria aperta, ma anche di biblioteche e archivi, di scacchi, di musica classica e di lettura in genere. La Storia comunque è il suo hobby principale sino dal liceo. Studia Roma repubblicana, l'età della Riforma e della Controriforma, l'Illuminismo e il periodo rivoluzionario napoleonico, le due guerre mondiali e il ventesimo secolo, la Repubblica di Venezia, la dinastia asburgica. È interessato soprattutto ai confronti fra soggetti, tempi, territori, comunità, civiltà. Considera un maestro Plutarco di Cheronea, fra gli antichi, e Arnold Joseph Toynbee, insuperabile cultore e studioso di storia comparata, tra i moderni.
