About the Author: Narasinha J. Shurpali is a senior researcher at the Department of Environmental and Biological Sciences, University of Eastern Finland (UEF), Kuopio campus. He received his MSc and PhD from the College of Agriculture, Mahatma Phule Agricultural University (India) and University of Nebraska (USA) respectively, and subsequently worked at various international institutes including the University of Antwerp (Belgium), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (India), University of Indiana (USA) and the Finnish Forest Research Institute (Finland). His primary research interest is in using measurement techniques to understand the carbon and nitrogen biogeochemical cycles in agriculture and other complex ecosystems such as natural and managed peatlands, forests on organic and mineral soils, arctic ecosystems, and simulation modelling of biogeochemical cycles of C and N using field data to validate the models, which represent an important tool in enhancing our understanding of the atmosphere-biosphere exchange.
