About the Book

The Guardian of Technical Excellence differentiates itself from other self help books by providing best practices and lessons learned from a military aircraft Chief Engineer's perspective - combining the need for a strong technical foundation, and commitment to technical excellence paired with leadership. While the work experiences and examples are focused on military aircraft weapon systems, the learnings can also be applied to other industries. The book is primarily targeted for early and mid-career engineers, including students aspiring to be engineers. The book defines and explains why topics such as "First Time Quality," "Ethics in Engineering," and "Valuing Diversity" are so important in achieving business results. Key technical processes are explained in addition to thoughts on career planning, which are provided in a user-friendly manner for the reader. See: www.theguardianbook.com.
About the Author: Jeff Deckelbaum is an Aerospace Engineering Executive, who retired from The Boeing Company in 2013, working nearly 37 years in Industry. He developed a passion for airplanes as a young boy, and with strengths in Mathematics and Science, he followed that passion into the Aerospace Industry. Deckelbaum began his career as a structural engineer on the AV-8B Harrier and advanced into positions of leadership of increasing responsibility, working on fixed wing aircraft, rotorcraft and commercial derivative aircraft. As a program and business unit chief engineer, he assembled and led people and teams that executed billions of dollars of complex, aircraft weapon systems programs for the United States Military and Allied Forces. In addition to Engineering, Deckelbaum held leadership positions in Manufacturing or Operations, Quality, Program Management and Information Systems. He is now an adjunct faculty member at Lindenwood University. Deckelbaum and his wife Kathy make their home in St. Charles, Missouri.
