About the Book

English summary: In the 18th century, profile portraits drawn in medallions were very popular. To this end, round, sculptured, ancient portraits have even been preserved. Portraits in the profile were very widespread and valued even in ancient times, including because they could be effectively mounted on surfaces made of precious material (porphyry, serpentine, basalt). German description: Im 18. Jahrhundert waren medaillonartig gefasste Profilbildnisse sehr beliebt.
