About the Book

In "Handbook to Health," Vivian Rice and Edie Wogaman provide nutritional education and encourage self-care to encourage wellness and prevent new health challenges. This book includes menus for various types of diets. It is filled with recipes that are easy to prepare and very delicious that everyone will enjoy, whether you are an Omnivore or Vegetarian.There are some diet specific menus found that relate to managing Candida, High Blood Pressure, Menopause, Arthritis, Diabetes Type II and Chronic Fatigue.They comment upon the "Soy Controversy" and GMO foods.The purpose of the book is to inform you that there is an easy way to change your thinking about food and increase your health. They do not practice medicine nor diagnose or treat any disease, but offer ways using diet for you to step on to a path to optimum health by eating nutritious and healthy foods.This book came about by the requests of their many clients, and years of questions from those clients, about how to start and end their days with the most nutritious and tasty foods to keep them on a path to optimum health.They encourage each individual who wants to discover the best foods for their bodies and health needs to be tested by a health professional who uses kinesiology (muscle-testing) to determine the most perfect diet that suits your body.It is our intent to introduce you to a lifestyle change that you can easily accomplish. Throughout the book Vivian and Edie recommend that you use the highest quality foods possible that are available to you. Organic produce, drug-free and hormone-free animals and their by-products (such as organic butter) and non-GMO foods are ideal.In this book you embark upon a course they have called: "open mouth, insert nourishment."They believe the most ideal foods to help anyone gain optimum health are organically grown. You will be encouraged to buy organic produce purchase produce at a local farmer's market or in a store, or raise it in a garden yourself. They explain why you should eat foods in their most natural state instead of refined. They suggest you use specific vegetable & fruit washing techniques to remove pesticides and herbicides from all the produce you purchase when it isn't organic.Proper food combining is the key to changing body chemistry to maintain good health and proper body weight. They provide menus and correlating recipes to clarify and simplify what has become a very confusing approach to wellness. There is a clear and simple food combining chart in this book. Vivian and Edie describe which herbs and foods nourish the colon and intestines, making the job of nutrient assimilation more efficient.You will learn why having small and frequent meals can help assimilate nutritional elements of your food and promote better elimination and healing.In the book, they discuss the "soy controversy" with pros and cons for adding soy to your diet and you will discover the "Dangers of Dairy" and so much more. They write about how tap water in most cities can contribute to thyroid dysfunction, and what element in tap water may elevate blood pressure. Another element found in most tap water may contribute to Alzheimer's Disease. They clearly explain why you should use distilled, natural spring or purified water rather than most city or bottled waters. The guidelines and menu ideas in this book are meant to help you get the most out of the food you eat. Appealing and tasty recipes can be made with easy-to-find ingredients, that are time efficient for a busy schedule will help you step on your path to optimum health.
About the Author: Vivian Rice began her professional career in 1964 as an LPN. Her experience working in hospitals as well as her personal experience with allergies motivated her to study and implement holistic healing methods. She studied at the American Hygienic Society in Chicago, IL and at Dr. Shelton's Health School in Texas with a focus on nutrition. She also has studied with Paavo Airola, ND, in Arizona and with N. W. Walker Ph.D, in California. Vivian became a Certified Healing Dialogue Therapist in 1983, and has done extended independent studies in nutrition, herbology and applied kinesiology. She has had more than 45 years experience in natural healing with nutrition and herbs. In 1980, Vivian opened and continues to operate her own healing practice. A nationally known ceremonialist, educator and speaker, she is an active member of the American Holistic Nurses Association, The American Herb Guild, and the Pikes Peak Herb Association. In 1983, she honored her Seminole Indian blood by learning and living the Spirit Road that honors all of the Creator's life forms and their synergistic purpose. She was adopted by the Lakota White Hawk family, in South Dakota. Edie Wogaman has been counseling in nutrition and lifestyle changes for thirty years. She has had intensive, supervised training in body chemistry balancing, personal growth, and communication issues. In addition to her mental health counseling, Edie is a Certified Hypnotherapist, a Reiki II practitioner, and has completed all necessary training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). Her Coaching training was with the Coaching Training Institute, California. This unique system assists one in having a happy, purposeful and successful life. Her current training and certification is in Matrix Energetics, which is a form of quantum healing for every level of physical, emotional and spiritual concerns. Edie's use of counseling skills, together with her vast knowledge in nutrition, creates a supportive blend that helps her facilitate clients' healing in body, mind and spirit.
