From the invention to pros and cons of the various implants and the logic of why the implants have been developed in their current forms, readers will learn about design, biomechanics needs, and materials. In addition, the book addresses fracture fixation and general issues contrasting different types of subgroups of implants such as nails versus plates or open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) versus external fixation.

About the Author: Arindam Banerjee, MBBS, FRCS, M.Sc Orth (London), Diploma in Orthopaedic Traumatology (Vienna) is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Narayana Health NH Super-specialty and Multispecialty Hospitals, Howrah and Institute of Neurosciences, Kolkata. He is also the founder and Medical Director of Medline Nursing Home. Dr Banerjee's special sub-speciality interests in Orthopaedic Surgery are acute trauma (including polytrauma) and hip/ knee arthroplasty. He is an examiner of the SICOT Diploma, peer reviewer and regular faculty of SICOT (World Orthopaedic Congress with HQ in Brussels, Belgium). He holds the Education Day Committee Chair (2020 and 2021) and is Vice Chair of the Education Committee (2019-21) in SICOT. He is the Secretary General Designate (term begins in September 2021) of the WOC (World Orthopaedic Concern) as well as Editor of its Newsletter. Concurrently he is the Secretary General of the Indian Chapter of WOC. He is a past President of NAILS (National Association of Interlocking Surgeons) and AOTS (Association of Orthopaedic Trauma Surgeons), India. Peter Biberthaler, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon who was trained at the University hospital Munich. He worked as a senior residence and consultant for trauma surgery and orthopedic surgery from 2004 until 2011. In this period, he developed his favor for the therapy of multiple injured patients as well as highly complex joint fractures. In this respect he developed several innovative surgical techniques and taught these technologies to a broad community of trauma and orthopedic surgeons. The Technical University of Munich appointed him as the director of the new introduced Department of trauma surgery at the Klinikum rechts der Isar. In this position as a full professor for trauma and orthopedic surgery, he developed this newly started department within a few years into one of the most successful locations for the therapy of complex trauma cases and complex joint fractures. Due to his high academic activity and his continuous teaching attitude he carried this knowledge within many ARTOF seminars lectures hands-on workshops and instructional courses far over the frontiers of Germany into the whole world. Prof Biberthaler's skill sets include traumatic brain injury biomarker, hip fractures and endoprosthesis, shoulder surgery from simple arthroscopy to revision reversed endoprosthesis, biomarkers for multiple injury, complex joint fractures shoulder, knee and ankle and multiple injuries. He has performed more than 6000 surgical procedures.
Saseendar Shanmugasundaram is Professor of Orthopaedics and Clinical Lead of Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine Division at Sri Lakshmi Narayana Institute of Medical Sciences. He has over 13 years of experience in arthroscopy, arthroplasty and trauma orthopedics. He completed his medical graduation and postgraduation from JIPMER, Pondicherry, India. He was awarded the best post-graduate gold medal at JIPMER in the year 2010. He was awarded the Fellowship of the International Society of Orthopedic Centres in 2012. He has also completed multiple fellowships in Singapore, USA, Switzerland, London, Germany and Korea and also the APKASS-SLARD travelling fellowship to Brazil, Columbia, Chile, Peru and Argentina. He was awarded honorary membership of the South American Arthroscopy Society and also honorary membership of the Magellan Society. He was also awarded the Lester Lowe Award in Arthroscoy and Sports Medicine by SICOT at the SICOT Congress 2022 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He has multiple publications in international and national orthopedic journals and has published multiple chapters in international books of note. He serves on the Editorial board of various international and national orthopedic journals. He has served as faculty in various international and national orthopedic conferences. He serves as the Vice-Chair of the Education Committee of SICOT and is Executive Committee member of the Arthroscopy and Sports Trauamtology Society of SICOT. He is also Executive Committee member of the World Orthopedic Concern and the Tamil Nadu Arthroscopy Society. Dr Saseendar's special interests include arthroscopic surgeries of the knee, shoulder, elbow and ankle; arthroplasty (joint replacement) surgeries of the knee, hip, shoulder and elbow; and orthopedic trauma surgeries.
