Auf der Burg Haunstein und im gleichnamigen Dorf an den Ausläufern des böhmischen Waldes versuchen Graf Haunstein und die Bewohner des Fleckens dem Elend des Dreißigjährigen Krieges zu trotzen. Der verwegene Rudolf Prack schließt sich zwei Offizieren des Generalissimus Albrecht Wenzel Eusebius von Wallenstein an. Er will sich seinen Kindheitstraum erfüllen und das berühmte Haus am Hradschin sehen, das sich im Besitz seines Grafen Haunstein befindet. In der ehrwürdigen Stadt Prag sinnen derweil ein alter Adelsmann, Zeuge des furchtbaren Geschehens seinerzeit am Altstädter Ring im waldsteinischen Fürstenpalais, und der betagte Kilian im Haus am Hradschin, einst unter dem großen Baumeister Peter Parler im Hohen Dom des Heiligen Veit tätig, über ihr Leben nach. Der Golem aus dem Judenviertel sitzt auf der Bank vor dem Haus am Hradschin, grübelt über die Zukunft seiner kaiserlichen Stadt, liest mit seinesgleichen aus der Kabbala und schreibt mit dem Finger in den Staub der Straße. Im gräflichen Dorf Haunstein gehen unterdessen die Dörfler unverzagt ihrer Arbeit nach. Rupert Prack spürt die Bitternis, die der Krieg den Dörflern zumutet; aber er wird die Seinen nicht ihrem Schicksal überlassen. Seine Gebote sind Gebet und Arbeit, und mit Gottes Hilfe will er allem Ungemach trotzen. Derweil fließt die gute Mutter Moldau wie zu allen Zeiten aus ihren moorigen Urgefilden im mächtigen böhmischen Wald hinein ins goldene Prag. In steter Sorge um das heilige böhmische Land trägt sie ihre oft genug wilden, schweren, aber vor allem Segen bringenden Wasser.
About the Author: Franz Spichtinger wurde 1941 in Plöss, einem Dorf an der böhmisch-bayerischen Grenze, geboren. Nach der Vertreibung und Flucht aus der angestammten Heimat ließ sich die Familie in der benachbarten Oberpfalz nieder. Der Neuanfang, der Aufbau neuer Beziehungen und Lebensverhältnisse und die Vielfalt persönlicher Ereignisse in den Wirren der Nachkriegszeit haben sich auch in seinem Leben niedergeschlagen. Der Autor studierte Erziehungswissenschaften und Religionspädagogik an der Katholischen Pädagogischen Hochschule Eichstätt. Danach war er als Volksschullehrer und schließlich als Schulleiter tätig. Ein Schwerpunkt ist seit Jahrzehnten im Rahmen der Erwachsenenbildung die Auseinandersetzung mit Fragen der Gesellschaftspolitik und der Religionen. Franz Spichtinger ist verheiratet und hat zwei Töchter.
