About the Book

Heart Disease and Antioxidant Failures is a compilation of over 100 antioxidant studies which have failed to prevent, reverse or cure heart diseases, such as atherosclerosis, plaque formation and hypertension. Of these studies, 30 study reports showed antioxidants having harmful heart adverse effects. People are taking potentially dangerous antioxidants unnecessarily and are wasting their money. Deceptive antioxidant marketing practices concerning so-called "heart-healthy antioxidants" have been exposed by Dr. Howes. Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death in America and around the globe. Oxygen free radicals have been implicated as being causative of atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) and of hypertension. The heart nornmally has an enormous need for oxygen, which is itself a di-radical. Consequently, investigators have attempted to prevent, reverse or cure heart diseases by the use of antioxidant supplements. Surprisingly, rigorous scientific testing has shown that antioxidants have failed to do so. More shocking is the fact that over 30 study reports have shown that they can cause adverse or harmful cardiovascular effects. Again, it appears that clever marketing has achieved its goal of increasing profits for ineffective and potentially dangerous antioxidant supplements. Help stop the fraud. Be informed with the scientific truth. Listen to an expert. Heed Dr. Howes' words of wisdom. Do not endanger your heart health needlessly as a response to false advertising. Be safe! Be smart!
About the Author: Some people are born with a silver spoon in their mouth but Dr. Howes had to earn his. From childhood, Dr. Howes was motivated to become a medical doctor and scientist. Having been born on a small strawberry farm in rural Louisiana, his journey to the top has proved to be arduous and demanding. Combining both medicine and science, he began work as a technician with Dr. Andrew Schally at the Endocrine Polypeptide Lab in the isolation of thyrotropin releasing factor, which led to a Nobel Prize for Dr. Schally. Dr. Howes graduated in the top 10 of his class, won the Louisiana Pathology Association Award, was elected to the Sigma Xi honor fraternity and was the first in the history of Tulane to become a Doctor of Medicine and a Ph.D. in biochemistry concurrently. Next, he went to the prestigious Johns Hopkins Hospital. At Dr. Howes' urging, he was allowed to operate his own research lab during his surgical internship and residency training. He worked hand in hand with the greats in American medicine and surgery. Independently, he garnered grants, trained lab techs, wrote papers, slept on the cold floor, proudly served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserves Medical Corp and finished with board eligibility in both general and plastic surgery in an unheard of six year period. In another first, he was appointed as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital. For decades, Dr. Howes gave unselfishly to pro bono medical missions in the Philippines and he was given the Espaldon Chair as Professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Santo Tomas. Upon retirement from a career in cosmetic plastic surgery, he is living his dream of trying to revolutionize the treatment of cancer, heart disease, HIV/AIDS and malaria, with his in depth knowledge of the arcane biochemistry of oxygen metabolism. Dedicated and passionate, he is on a mission for mankind. Dr. Howes is a Dr. Norman Vincent Peale Unsung Hero award winner and recipient of the Harper Award from the American College for Advancement in Medicine. He invented the triple lumen venous catheter, which has been credited with helping save the lives of over 20 million critically ill patients worldwide. His catheter became the number one venous catheter in the world and his name is well recognized in over 100 countries. Dr. Howes is exposing the harmful, dark side of the common antioxidants. His book will open your eyes and let you see the scientific truth.
