Der vorliegende Band enthalt die Beitrage einer Tagung uber "Heinrich Seuses Philosophia spiritualis", die 1991 in Eichstatt stattgefunden hat. Verschiedene neuere Forschungen zur Philosophie- und Theologiegeschichte der ersten Halfte des 14. Jahrhunderts und auf dem Gebiet der deutschen Mystik machen es erforderlich, die Stellung des Dominikaners Heinrich Seuse neu zu untersuchen und genauer zu erfassen. Dieser Aufgabe sind die in diesem Band enthaltenden Beitrage zugeordnet. Historische, philologische, philosophische und theologische Untersuchungen bemuhen sich um eine neue Bestimmung des Werkes und der Person Heinrich Seuse. Dabei geht es vor allem darum, die Quellen genauer zu erforschen sowie die Stellung Seuses im Kontext der intellektuellen Auseinandersetzungen seiner Zeit genauer zu erfassen. In seiner "Philosophia spiritualis" ist Seuse bestrebt, eine "Scientia" im Sinne der "Sapienta" zu entwerfen und als das eigentlich erstrebenswerte Ziel darzustellen. Er tut dies in kritischer Auseinandersetzung mit den geistigen Stromungen seiner Zeit, indem er sich an eine altere Tradition der Philosophie anschliesst, die diese als "Lebenslehre" versteht. Untersuchungen zur Rezeption Heinrich Seuses lassen schliesslich den nachhaltigen Einfluss seines Gedankengutes auf die geistlichen Stromungen der folgenden Zeit erkennen. Die Forschungsarbeit wurde von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft gefordert und im Rahmen eine Sonderforschungsberichs uber Wissens-Literatur im Mittelalter durchgefuhrt. Der Band enthalt verschiedene, teilweise erheblich erweiterte Beitrage der beteiligten Forscher.
