About the Book

This book is the first volume of series (by a number of pharmacists and pharmacognosists) including the useful information about medicinal plants which are currently used by people and still alive in Iranian Attari. The authors provided the available information on traditional and folk uses of the plants as well as the most recent published data on phytochemistry and pharmacology of the herbal medicines. The series will contain 150 medicinal plants totally, of which 27 are presented in here. This book also contain color pictures of the mentioned herbal medicines and medicinal plants and is well-documented with the most recent academic references, useful for the college and university students and researchers.
About the Author: Soodabeh Saeidnia was born on April 1973 in Iran. She received her Pharm. D. from Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences (1997) and a Ph.D. of Pharmacognosy from Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) in 2002. She has been a Visiting Researcher at Kyoto University, Japan (2002-2003) and awarded Kyoto University Foreign Researcher Fellowship to work as a Research Associate at Kyoto University (2005-2006), also a Visiting Professor in Saskatchewan University (2013-2014). She joined to the cancer research group in college of Pharmacy and Nutrition. As an Assistant and Associate Professor of Pharmacognosy in Medicinal Plants Research Center TUMS, she has written roughly 160 papers and books in collaborating with different research teams and projects. Her research interests involve natural product chemistry, molecular biology, cancer research, immunopharmacology and traditional medicine. She is a member of the Iranian Society of Pharmacognosy, an editorial board member, reviewer and editor in a number of international academic journals. Recently (2015-2016), she has authored/edited two books published by "Springer" titled "Satureja: Ethnomedicine, Phytochemical Diversity and Pharmacological Activities" (Springer Briefs in Pharmacology and Toxicology)" and "New Approaches to Natural Anticancer Drugs" (SpringerBriefs in Pharmaceutical Science & Drug Development). Furthermore, she has authored/co-authored a number of book chapters including seven chapters in "Encyclopedia of Toxicology" by "Elsevier" released in 2014. Now she is living in New York City and conducting several book projects including academic, scientific and also literary books. Soodabeh is also a poet who writes her poetry in both Farsi (her mother tongue) and English. Her poems in English have been published in a number of American/Canadian/British literary journals and magazines as well as poetry collections and anthologies including"Street of the Ginkgo Trees", "Voice of Monarch Butterflies", and "Apple Fruits of an Old Oak".
