Länder - Mittelalter, Frühe Neuzeit, Note: 1,5, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universität Hannover (Historisches Seminar), Veranstaltung: Die Normannen im Mittelalter, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Organisation und Praxis einer Herrschaftsausübung sind zwei entscheidende Punkte, ein Reich erfolgreich zu regieren - noch dazu, wenn es sich, wie bei Wilhelm dem Eroberer, um ein fremdes Reich handelte. Mit der siegreichen Schlacht von Hastings hatte Wilhelm zwar den Grundstein für die Eroberung des angelsächsischen Englands gelegt - beherrscht war das Land aber noch keineswegs. Es sind qualitativ zwei verschiedene Dinge, eine Schlacht zu gewinnen und anschließend ein funktionierendes Herrschaftssystem in einem fremden Land zu etablieren. Gewisse parallelen zu aktuellen politischen Vorgängen bestätigen diese Feststellung nur. Für Wilhelm waren die Probleme in England mit dem Sieg bei Hastings nicht gelöst - sie fingen im Grunde erst an. Wie sollte er mit einer numerisch eklatant unterlegenen Gefolgschaft ein Reich dieser Größe dauerhaft beherrschen? Kapitel 2 dieser Hausarbeit geht auf angelsächsische Aufstände in der Frühphase der Regierung Wilhelms ein und soll herausarbeiten, dass der konsequente Bau normannischer Burgen ein wichtiger Bestandteil der vollständigen Eroberung Englands war - gerade wegen besagter zahlenmäßiger Unterlegenheit der Angreifer. Im folgenden werden weitere konkrete Punkte der Herrschaftsorganisation und Herrschaftspraxis im anglonormannischen Reich für die Regierungszeit Wilhelms I. (1066 - 1087) erörtert, wobei die Abhandlungen aufgrund des Umfangs der Hausarbeit auf einige ausgewählte Probleme reduziert werden müssen. So soll geklärt werden, inwieweit Wilhelm die vor der Eroberung in England existierende einheimische Adels- und Klerikerschicht entmachtete, und durch ihm getreue Gefolgsleute ersetzte. Anschließend wird in Kapitel 3.2 der Frage nachgegangen, ob Wilhelm das ihm
