About the Book

Herakleitos (Heraclitus) van Efeze (ca. 540 v.Chr.-480 v.Chr.) wordt de Duistere of de Raadselaar genoemd omdat de aforismen die bewaard zijn gebleven en hij aan de godin Artemis schonk duistere raadsels lijken. In 'Het Ene in de ogen van Herakleitos' zijn die aforismen vertaald (vanuit het Engels), geordend tot een coherent geheel en van een heldere uitleg voorzien.

Het traditionele beeld van Herakleitos als iemand die de mythe vaarwel zei ten gunste van een logos in de betekenis van 'rationele wetenschappelijke wetmatigheid' zal verbrijzeld worden. Herakleitos ziet juist een logos in het mythische van religieuze (offer)rituelen. Hoe religieuzer en 'metafysischer' hij is hoe 'fysischer', wetenschappelijker, hij kan zijn.

De rivier waar je als sterveling slechts eenmaal in kan stappen omdat er steeds nieuwe wateren toestromen is de mythische rivier de Lèthe (Vergetelheid) die de wereld van de levenden van de geestelijke goddelijke wereld scheidt door levende stervelingen steeds alles te laten vergeten dat ze in de geestelijke wereld waarnemen en leren. Een rivier die zo snel stroomt als de constante snelheid van het licht. Een rivier die middels het offer bewust is over te steken omdat het offer je de energie geeft sneller dan het licht te stromen. Daardoor kan je je herinneren wat je aan inzichten in de geestelijke wereld weet te veroveren. De stap als stap denkt Herakleitos tegelijkertijd wetenschappelijk als de absoluut kleinste objectieve tijdseenheid.

Dit boek laten zien dat Herakleitos kennis had van het (religieuze) offer. Hij was niet zozeer tegen religie en het mythische, maar tegen een onwaarachtige uitvoering van religieuze rituelen zonder inzicht in het goddelijke.

Een onmisbaar boek voor degenen die geïnteresseerd zijn in de klassieke oudheid. Het is een handboek voor de waarheidszoeker die vanuit reeds gevonden waarheid verder zoekt. Een boek waarmee waarheid begrepen kan worden en zo tot wijsheid kan transformeren. De woestijn kan een oase worden.
