Es geht natürlich auch um das Orchester, seine Protagonisten, die Ereignisse hinter den Kulissen in dieser Zeit und um Wien, das sich nicht immer schmeichelhaft darstellt. Der Autor, Dr. Lutz Lüdemann, Generalsekretär der Wiener Symphoniker in den Jahren 1977 bis 1988, widmet sich den Erlebnissen "hinter dem Podium". Es geht um Geschichte als subjektives Erlebnis, leicht und locker geschrieben.
About the Author: "Ich habe erstaunliches Glück gehabt." Vom Studium in Tübingen und Wien (an der Universität Germanistik und Theaterwissenschaft, dazu an der Wiener Akademie Gesang) gelang dem im "dunklen Westfalen" geborenen der Sprung in die Praxis, in die geliebte Musik, in die Musikabteilung des Westdeutschen Rundfunks Köln. Von dort das Höchste zu Erreichende - immer noch als junger Mensch - nach Wien zu den Wiener Symphonikern. Ein noch nicht 40-jähriger als Generalsekretär unter den erhabenen Professoren des Orchesters. Schließlich nach einem weiteren Jahrzehnt wieder der Rundfunk, diesmal die Musikabteilung des SDR Stuttgart. In Wien hatte der Westfale mit der großen Geschichte der Musikstadt zu kämpfen. Die bedeutendsten Dirigenten und Solisten der Welt, die man bisher nur von der Fama und den Medien kannte, die machtvollsten Leiter der Wiener Kultur wurden Freunde und Kollegen ... oder Gegner. Zwischen der Musik mit ihrer emotionalen Explosion und dem nüchternen Handwerk des Managements, zwischen dem Erhabenen und dem trügerischen Menschlichen, gab es nur eines: der höchsten Qualität immer den Vorrang zu ermöglichen ... und den Humor nicht zu verlieren. Mit Verdis Bekenntnis: "Tutto nel mondo è burla!" ("Alles ist Spaß auf Erden", Finale seines Fallstaff), lässt sich leichter formulieren, was sich "Hinter Frack und Fliege" verbirgt.
