About the Book

Alphonse Esquiros (1812-1876) était un écrivain, journaliste et homme politique français du 19e siècle. Il est surtout connu pour sa participation au mouvement politique des Montagnards pendant la Deuxième République française (1848-1852), une période marquée par des bouleversements politiques et sociaux en France. Les Montagnards étaient un groupe politique qui faisait partie de l'Assemblée nationale constituante élue en 1848 après la Révolution de Février. Ils étaient principalement composés de républicains radicaux, de socialistes et de démocrates, et ils s'opposaient aux conservateurs et aux modérés. Les Montagnards étaient généralement en faveur de réformes plus radicales et sociales, tels que le suffrage universel masculin, la garantie du droit au travail et des mesures de protection sociale. Alphonse Esquiros, en tant qu'écrivain et homme politique engagé, s'est rallié aux Montagnards et a joué un rôle actif dans leurs activités. Il a écrit des articles et des discours soutenant les idées du mouvement et critiquant les tendances conservatrices. Ses écrits reflétaient souvent ses convictions sociales et démocratiques, en prônant l'égalité et la justice pour tous. Cependant, la Deuxième République a été de courte durée, et en 1851, le président Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte (futur Napoléon III) a organisé un coup d'État qui a mis fin à la République et a établi le Second Empire. Esquiros s'est opposé à ce coup d'État et a été contraint à l'exil. Il a passé plusieurs années en Angleterre avant de revenir en France après la chute du Second Empire en 1870. Esquiros a continué à écrire et à s'engager politiquement même après son retour en France. Il a également été élu député à l'Assemblée nationale en 1871, pendant la période de la Commune de Paris. Cependant, il n'a pas réussi à obtenir une grande influence politique à cette époque. Alphonse Esquiros est décédé en 1876 à Marseille.
