Vorliegende Studie stellt einen Vergleich der Entwicklungsphasen der einzelnen Nationalliteraturen Sudost-Europas im 19. Jh. dar und setzt sich zum Ziel, einer Typologie der Funktionen von Theater im Nationswerdungsprozess naherzukommen. Dabei wird von der Grundthese ausgegangen, dass der Nationalwerdungsprozess der einzelnen Balkanvolker gewisse Dramenformen forciert und dass sich ein direkter Zusammenhang zwischen offentlichem Leben und Theaterproduktion nachweisen lasst. Demnach fallt dem historischen Drama die Rolle der Kultivierung und Pflege des nationalen Mythos in der Vergangenheit zu, der gesellschaftskritischen Komodie das Aufzeigen der offentlichen und privaten Missstande in der Nation, welche sich mit den proklamierten Idealen von Freiheit und Unabhangigkeit nur schwer vertragen."
About the Author: Der Autor: Walter Puchner wurde 1947 in Wien geboren. Von 1967 bis 1972 studierte er Theaterwissenschaft in Wien; 1972 Dr. phil., 1977 Habil. fur Theaterwissenschaft in Wien. Ab 1978 war er Lehrbeauftragter fur Theatergeschichte an der Universitat Kreta, ab 1989 Prof. fur Theaterwissenschaft in Athen; Gastprofessuren in Graz und Wien. Forschungsbereiche: Theatergeschichte Sudost-Europas, Volkstheater, Dramen- und Theatertheorie, Volkskunde, Byzantinistik und Neograzistik, Vergleichende Balkanologie."
