About The Author: Friedrich Max Muller (1823–1900) was a German-born philologist and Orientalist, who spent most of his life in Britain. He oversaw the creation of "The Sacred Books of the East," a comprehensive 50-volume set of English translations. Muller's interest in Sanskrit and the study of Indian texts led him to England, where he became a prominent commentator on Indian culture during the British Empire's rule. He believed that language and culture were intimately connected and extensively studied the Rig-Veda to understand the development of pagan European religions.
