About the Book

HOME - THE FIRST SCHOOL, How To Grow A Genius Child is the guide book of methodology and tips based on my experience homeschooling my son.The second edition updating the first one, with special focus on Jamaica and what is available to Jamaican homeschooling parents.
About the Author: Mrs. Blake-Hannah is best known in Jamaica as a print, internet, radio and television journalist. While working in England in 1968 she became Britain's first Black TV journalist, working in the press, film and television industries of Jamaica and England for more than 50 years, and especially as a current affairs reporter and interviewer on THAMES TV daily evening programme "TODAY with Eammon Andrews", on "ATV TODAY", Birmingham, and as producer on BBC-TV weekly current affairs programme "MAN ALIVE" including a documentary on the Cannes Film Festival. Mrs. Blake Hannah, has been a columnist on the Jamaican 'STAR" and the Sunday Herald newspapers, and written articles, columns and Letters to the Editor for all Jamaican print media. She has hosted a weekly call-in programme on RJR and is a frequent guest on cultural programmes on IRIE-FM and other Jamaican radio stations. She is the director/producer of 8 films and has been a guest of film festivals in the USA (New York and Los Angeles), Cannes (France), Cork, Ireland; Havana, Cuba; Leipzig, East Germany and Baghdad, Iraq. She continues to work in the film and communications industries as organizer of the first Jamaica Film Festival in 1974, the Cuban Film Festival (1975), the World Festival of Youth & Students Film Festival (1985) and as organizer of the Jamaica International Reggae Film Festival from 2008-2013. Mrs. Blake-Hannah is also known as a pioneer in the Jamaican home-schooling movement. She home-schooled her son Makonnen who made international news when he was appointed the Government's Youth Technology consultant in 1998 at the age of 13 years, representing Jamaica at international presentations at M.I.T., Harvard University, the United Nations, NASA Kennedy Space Center (Orlando) and as lecturer to students at schools and universities in the Caribbean. Her book HOME - THE FIRST SCHOOL is a guide book and inspiration for home-schooling parents in Jamaica and the Black Diaspora.
