About the Book

Following the deaths of his wife and his father, juvenile court judge Jay Treadway could find little to sustain his life. Sailing into powerful storms in the Bahamas, he risked it all until his stepbrother, Tom, convinced him to return to work in New York. On his first day back, ten-year-old Samuel Littell appeared before him, reportedly as a member of a gang accused of murder. No one knew much about Sam other than he'd been in a serious accident and had amnesia, and as time passed, what little they thought they knew didn't seem to fit what they observed. Who was this boy? Jay and Sam embark on a journey of discovery to unlock Sam's mysterious identity while developing an unforeseen and unexpected involvement with each other.
About the Author: Beth Baxter graduated from Saint Mary's College in 1961 and later earned her M.A. in mathematics from the University of Michigan. She is married to Robert Baxter, M.D., and they have three children. In one form or another, Beth devoted her career to the field of education. In various institutions, she taught math at the high school and community college levels, chaired the math department in a K-12 private school, served as head of a private school and, finally, taught at Texas A & M University. In 1984, she moved to IBM where she consulted to colleges and major research universities on strategic planning for information technology. Ten years later, she established her own consulting firm to continue that work. Prior to retiring, Beth began to explore her latent creative interests and has now published three novels. The first two, Two Sons and A Detoured Life, have been very well received. The third book, What the Horse Knew, was just published in January 2015. Beth and her husband now split their time between Bonita Springs, Florida and Santa Fe, New Mexico.
