About the Book

Product Description A mother is unable to breast feed her baby, A mother finds that she needs to supplement her breast milk with a baby formula to help ensure that her baby continues to meet its growth and development milestones. A mother finds that she must return to her career to help maintain domestic finances. Suddenly these mothers find themselves with a significant dilemma, All baby formulas available in the local marketplace differ to some extent, therefore to where can she turn in order to seek information which can assist her in making the right decision on her choice of baby formula to provide her baby with the best possible start in Life? Such information is not readily available, and it most certainly is not forthcoming in a meaningful form on the labels of baby formula cans on the supermarket or pharmacy shelves. Nutrient values on baby formula cans need close scrutiny and often need recalculation to be able to compare like with like, to ensure that important key nutrients are provided at adequate levels, It is not made any easier when many baby formulas continue to develop in line with real science. The author, a consultant nutritionist with decades of following the science behind improvements in baby formulas, has brought together an up-to-date assessment of the importance of key nutrients, and has provided the tools for new mothers to use in comparing the varying forms of nutrient values which appear on baby formula labels. A "must-read" for the discerning new mother, who might be challenged in her choice of baby formula for her baby.
About the Author: Garry Wainscott, born in New Zealand, is a pharmacist by trade, dispensing both human and veterinary treatments prior to moving into the pharmaceutical industry. After eight years with that first company, he was asked to become a key manager with a major US-based international company involved both in pharmaceuticals and in nutrition products, eventually being promoted to a General Management position. After nine years with that company in New Zealand, he transferred to Asian postings, living and working in Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand in key marketing roles and general management. He spent 26 years managing operations both in South-East Asia and in South Asia before retiring to start his own business, TeknoLink Nutrition, based in Perth, Western Australia. Garry's involvement with infant nutrition began in 1967 when he lobbied the dairy industry and the Department of Agriculture in New Zealand to be permitted to remove the saturated fats from cow milk and replace them with vegetable oils to commence infant formula manufacturing in that country. Working with three regional paediatric groups in Sri Lanka and organising analytical services in Nutrition Department, University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand, he enabled the first Sri Lankan breast milk studies in the 1990s. Whilst domiciled in Singapore, he held multi-year tenures as President, Singapore Association of Pharmaceutical Industries (SAPI) and Chairman, Advertising Standards Authority of Singapore (ASAS). In 1983 he was the founder of Singapore Nutrition and Dietetics Association (SNDA). In more rent years (2003 - 2006) Garry lectured on various infant nutrition topics to paediatricians at various venues in Malaysia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Philippines, China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. He was a Guest Speaker, Obstetrics & Gynaecology of Singapore Congress (2005) and a Guest Speaker, Obstetrics & Gynaecology Society of Malaysia Congress (2006). Garry graduated from Deakin University, Australia: Graduate Diploma in Human Nutrition Master in Health Sciences (Human Nutrition)
